Paramount Pictures and Sega continue to expand the Sonic the Hedgehog universe in film and television.
Although Sonic the Hedgehog 2 won’t air until next spring, a third cinematic installment in the franchise is officially in development, as is the first-ever live-action original Sonic series slated for 2023. It will feature the character of Knuckles, of which Idris Elba will take over the voice. As a reminder, the first film Sonic the Hedgehog broke numerous records, including becoming the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time when it hit theaters, grossing nearly $320 million at the global box office.
