Ubisoft Singapore’s much-anticipated multiplayer pirate game, Skull and Bones, has officially set sail on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
Players find themselves in the 18th-century golden age of piracy, taking on the role of a pirate captain navigating the Indian Ocean.
Challenges include encounters with other players, storms, sea monsters, and enemy strongholds. Amidst these perils, players must build alliances, recruit crew members, and upgrade their ships.
Ambitious Project with a Price Tag
Skull and Bones has been a highly ambitious project, leading Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot to justify its $86 price tag for the console version, labeling it a AAAA blockbuster.
The PC version, available on Ubisoft’s store and Epic Games, is priced at $64.60 for the standard edition and $96 for the Premium edition. Additional costs include seasonal updates every three months, introducing new pirates, ships, and playable settings.
A Long Journey Since 2013
Announced alongside games like Mario + Rabbids, Starlink, Assassin’s Creed Origins, and Beyond Good & Evil 2 at the 2017 E3 conference, Skull and Bones has faced a prolonged development period.
While its counterparts hit the market, Skull and Bones’ development, initiated in 2013, spans over 11 years and may have encountered restarts along the way.
In Globe Live Media, impressions from the game’s beta in December shed light on the endgame, a standout feature of Ubisoft’s latest title.
The impressions highlight the enjoyment of sailing with teammates, raiding other ships, engaging in PVP ‘arenas,’ and facing formidable world bosses.
The diverse specializations available for ships add depth to the gameplay, creating a thrilling and engaging experience for players.
