By playing The Outer Worlds and reaching the Doom That Came To Roseway quest, you will meet Cassandra O’Malley. She has been trapped in a cell and needs your help to get out. But should we kill her or free her? This is a critical question you must answer, and your choices matter. Here’s what you need to know if you should free or kill Cassandra O’Malley in The Outer Worlds.

The Outer Worlds: Should we free or kill Cassandra O’Malley?

When you find Cassandra, you can talk to her and find out that she is the person who led the raid on the secret lab. She doesn’t apologize much for killing people there, but she also doesn’t pose a direct threat to you, so there’s no need to kill her right away. She must decide what to do as she has Anton’s Research, which she must return to Anton or sell to Gladys at Groundbreaker.

You can also be sure that Cassandra’s freedom will lead to more violence and death. However, there is a good solution. If your persuasiveness is high enough, you can convince Cassandra to cease hostilities with the guards. When you succeed, return to the Secret Lab entrance and you can convince the guards to stop fighting the raiders. You can tell the head of the guards that you think he has more to offer than to die in an unnamed laboratory.

The security agents will agree to leave and give you the key to open all the lab doors, which will allow you to free Cassandra. If you choose to kill Cassandra, you will get XP for killing an enemy and you can now get Anton’s Research. If you free her, you can get Bits and tell her that she still has to give you Anton’s research.

If you let Cassandra live, you’ll also have access to Lillian’s Journey Into Smoke quest, which you’ll find outside the secret lab exit when you leave. For those who want to gain the most experience, it’s best to let Cassandra live. However, if that’s not too much of a concern to you and you’d rather fight your way through the game and have your character take out Cassandra, that’s also an option, but you’ll miss the Journey Into Smoke quest.

If you don’t have the dialog skills to speak on both sides but need to get the security key, you’ll need to follow this guide to find a terminal and print one.
