There are a good number of viable weapons in Resident Evil 4 Remake, and many are pistols. One of the latest you encounter in Merchant is the Blacktail, a powerful and slow-moving beast that, when fully leveled up, can take out even some of the toughest enemies with just a few hits. But should you use it?

You Should Be Wearing The Blacktail In The Resident Evil 4 Remake, With Some Caveats

The Blacktail is the most powerful firearm in the Resident Evil 4 Remake if you take it head on. No other weapon has so much stopping power per bullet. While not as powerful as any of the fully upgraded Magnum, Shotguns, or Assault Rifles options if you place it at the bottom of your upgrade tree, no other gun can deal as much damage as efficiently.

However, the Blacktail lacks two things that make the Punisher our pick for best overall firearm. The first is the size of your magazine. Even fully upgraded, the Blacktail only has 14 rounds available before needing to reload. It also lacks the Punisher’s ability to penetrate targets and is the most expensive weapon to upgrade, with subsequent upgrades costing over $50,000. AND

For both of these reasons, if you’re attempting S+ rated runs, even on standard difficulty, it’s best to use the Punisher or even the SG-09R, thanks to their leniency. However, if you’re a serious shooter and like to invest heavily in your weapon of choice, there are few better options in all of Resident Evil 4 Remake.

The Blacktail rewards good aim, delivers a satisfying hard hit, and will be usable from the time you purchase it until the specially upgraded endgame. There are better options on paper, but sometimes the fun outweighs the optimization.
