In November last year, we saw the release of the final episode of Sonic in 3D with sound borders, which came to Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, PS4, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch, bringing SEGA’s blue hedgehog to the open world genre. Today we can confirm that Sonic Frontiers was a success, because sold better than expected for SEGA.
After its last presentation of its financial results in the last quarter, SEGA organized a question-and-answer session with its investors, where it gave some details on the good performance of Sonic Frontiers. “We believe we have found a title that is widely accepted by many people around the world.”, is how the company describes Sonic Frontiers.
SEGA acknowledges that the Metacritic rating for Sonic Frontiers was somewhat low, but they are happy that the user rating was high. Additionally, SEGA has also confirmed that “the number of units sold far exceeded our initial expectations”, they will therefore continue to support the title by developing DLCs and planning promotions.
In the presentation, SEGA promised to create larger-scale projects such as Sonic Frontiers, although it was not confirmed if it would be a direct sequel to the last game. either, SEGA claims that for their next titles, they will allocate a larger budget, even in their early stages of development. For this reason, SEGA assumes that the development costs of the following titles will increase.
SEGA recently recorded a new version of Sonic Origins called Sonic Origins Plus, which was recorded in South Korea last week. However, at the moment SEGA has not made any official announcement in this regard, so we just have to wait to find out their plans with Sonic Frontiers and the Sonic franchise in general.
