Five Nights at Freddy’s , a small indie title developed by one person, became one of the most important games of the past decade. This work and its sequels changed not only the face of horror video games, but the world of streaming and youtubers. Their seventh anniversary is only a few weeks away, but FNAF creator Scott Cawthon announced his retirement.
Through a statement posted on his website , Scott Cawthon reflects on the past few years and decides that it is time to put Five Nights at Freddy’s ( FNAF ) aside. She adds that she is going to focus on her family and that she misses playing games for her children.
It also clarifies that this does not mean that there will be no more FNAF games , only that someone else will be in charge of “continuing the show.”
This news comes just days after Scott Cawthon was embroiled in a scandal. It came to light that he has donated money to campaigns of Republican politicians like Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell. This is serious because the actions of these people have especially hurt LGBTI people. They are a very important part of the FNAF fan community .
When this was revealed, many fans felt betrayed knowing that the money they were spending on FNAF games and products was reaching the pockets of those who worked to harm them.
For his part, Scott Cawthon issued a statement declaring that he loves the LGBTI fans of Five Nights at Freddy’s ( FNAF ), but that he did not regret the donations he made . Kotaku published an article explaining the controversy in detail .
We are currently still waiting for FNAF: Security Breach , which will be released for PS4, PS5 and PC before the end of 2021. Currently we can enjoy a small free title of the franchise called Fury’s Rage .
