Don’t call it a comeback, but Saints Row, Volition’s sandbox game that struggled for sales and acclaim in 2022, is about to get a drastic overhaul thanks to a major lineup of DLC. , including additional maps, modes, missions, and cosmetics. , everything is ready to be drip fed throughout 2023. Will that be enough to attract people? Is the goodwill of Saints Row 2 and Saints Row The Third still strong enough? The will is certainly doing its best, so hopefully.

The Saints Row DLC roadmap kicks off in humble style with a free Dead Island 2 cosmetic pack arriving in April. Given some of the criticisms we’ve raised in our own Saints Row review, it will understandably take more than that to fix the open-world gameplay, but Volition has a lot up its sleeve.

In May, there’s a free update that adds a whole new neighborhood to the city of Santo Ileso, as well as an overhaul of Saints Row combat and the addition of a photo mode; to reiterate, everyone will get all of this for absolutely nothing.

However, if you have the Saints Row Expansion Pass, you will also get new quests, events, and cosmetics through the “Heist and Hazardous” DLC. Didn’t buy the expansion pass? Regardless, you can purchase Heist and Hazardous separately.

July will bring another free update that will introduce additional features (although we don’t know exactly what they are yet), as well as numerous quality of life fixes.

There will also be a new single-player game mode called “Doc Ketchum’s Murder Circus,” which Volition says will take place in “an (even more) twisted version of one of our favorite Santo Uninjured areas.” More details should be coming soon. Like the Heist and Hazardous Pack, Murder Circus will be available to anyone who owns the Expansion Pass, or can be purchased separately.

And finally, in August, there’s a new free area, more quality of life changes, and again, some anonymous new stuff. Expansion Pass holders will also receive a third pack containing additional missions, enemies, and cosmetics, and again, you can purchase this separately.

In short, it looks like Saints Row is going through a total top-to-bottom transformation throughout 2023, with massive DLC coming in May, July, and August. Will this be enough to bring people back to Santo Ileso? We love a good redemption story, so let’s hope so.
