It feels like an unusual mix, the brutal western world of Red Dead Redemption with the urban micromanagement of Cities Skylines. But Wild West Dynasty, a new building game on Steam, available now in early access, is determined to do just that, blending crafting, exploration, strategy and story to deliver a new hybrid genre. Also available on GOG and the Epic Games Store, if you like the dirt and drama of the American frontier, combined with clever management and survival gameplay, Wild West Dynasty might be for you.
The tone is simple. As a member of a group of Western settlers, you must gather resources, build a town, and manage the day-to-day needs of your fellow pioneers. You can travel on foot or on horseback, collecting treasures along the way, and using the environment to create and forge the perfect place to live.
Naturally, however, it will not be so easy. You need to defend yourself against bandit attacks, your cattle need protection from the weather, and if you don’t take care of yourself, the scorching heat and biting cold will drive you to the ground.
With dozens of quests, branching dialogue, and a story that varies depending on your choices, Wild West Dynasty puts a twist on management gaming by customizing your combat. It’s not just a generic “society” you’re trying to build. It’s you, your character and your people.
There are three editions of Wild West Dynasty available. The Settler’s Guide to the Wild West brings you a collection of three accompanying digital books, describing the word of the game. The Digital Supporter’s Edition comes with the game’s full soundtrack, along with a short story covering the story of the game. And Ultimate Edition is a combination of both.
Two-thirds of the entire world of Wild West Dynasty is already available to explore, and developer Toplitz plans to update and expand the game over the next twelve months. The studio has already developed a content roadmap through June, with additional story chapters, more side quests and buildings, and additional crafting recipes in the works. You can buy Wild West Dynasty on Steam for $26.99 USD (£22.99 GBP). Otherwise, head over to GOG or the Epic Games Store.
