International Data Corporation (IDC) has confirmed PSVR 2 Sales it will fail and recommended a price drop if Sony is to avoid disaster. The company says only 270,000 PSVR 2 units will be sold by March 31.
Sony remains bullish on PSVR 2
Speaking to Bloomberg, IDC Vice President of Data and Analytics Francisco Geronimo said PSVR 2 came at a time of economic uncertainty around the world.
“Consumers around the world are facing rising costs of living, rising interest rates and rising layoffs,” Geronimo said. “VR headsets are not a priority for most consumers in the current economic climate.”
While the PSVR 2 appears to be a novelty, Sony remained bullish on the headset’s sales. The company has previously dismissed reports from Bloomberg that it was looking to cut production of the PSVR 2 and has repeatedly said it believes the headset will outperform its predecessor.
Reviewers unanimously hailed the PSVR 2 as a breakthrough in virtual reality, but raised concerns about its library.
Sony has yet to reveal any official sales data, so we’ll find out in due course how well the PSVR 2 sold. The headset launched on February 22 for $549.99.
