Gone are the days of having to plug in the ps5 controller to update it, as the new console firmware update 7.00 has implemented the ability for DualSense pads to be updated wirelessly.

PS5 Wireless Controller Updates

After the new PS5 update is successfully installed, PS5 users will be able to accept the update prompt from their controller without connecting with a USB-C cable.

Here are the relevant patch notes of the new update:

Wireless Device Update for DualSense Wireless Controller: You can now update the DualSense Wireless Controller software over a wireless connection. If you are having trouble updating your device software wirelessly, please connect your controller to your PS5 console using the USB cable to update it. You will be able to update wirelessly for the next update.

As long as the controller is sufficiently charged, it can be updated wirelessly, eliminating the need for users to access and plug in the system.

If you’re like me, you regularly skipped the update screen because you just couldn’t bother getting up and trying to find the cable. Now there are fewer excuses.

Of course, from an accessibility standpoint, it’s a big win for those who can’t easily update the controller with a cable.

The PS5 DualSense controller is getting a lot of love lately, with this third party creating hall-effect analog sticks that should stop annoying stick drift.
