As you may have noticed, the Gears of War franchise changed in tone and overall theme starting with Gears of War 4. It was the first game in the series created by Coalition. It was the first game in The Coalition series, and it moved from the horror feel of the original trilogy to something more lighthearted.
Turns out that wasn’t what the Xbox boss, Phil Spencerhad in mind when Microsoft bought the IP in 2014, as revealed by the person who made Gears of War in the first place; Bleszinski Cliff. When he recently visited the XboxEra podcast, he had this to say:
“That was Phil Spencer’s main idea when Microsoft acquired the Gears of War IP. When he was talking to Rod Ferguson, he told him to go back to the horror stuff.”
The truth is that the new characters in Gears of War 4 and Gears 5 have not been well received by the community and, although they are very good games, a sector of players have repeatedly insisted on the fact that they wanted the series to return to its horror. roots.
Gears 6 is currently in development and appears to be out of pre-production, judging by the job postings we recently reported. Whether Gears 6 will be darker and once again have the same macho, over-the-top characters as the original remains to be seen. Would you like it or are you happy with the direction of the latest games?
Check out Cliff Bleszinski’s interview below for his take on the matter. It starts at minute 48, in case you want to skip ahead.
