The ability to change Destiny 2 loadouts is probably one of the most exciting additions coming with the Lightfall expansion, but it’s not without its downsides. As it outlines major updates to one of the best FPS games on PC, Bungie reveals that while players will be able to change their Destiny 2 gear on the fly, you’ll still need to do some manual management to keep your inventory from overflowing. .
The new download feature lets you quickly switch between your best Destiny 2 builds with just the press of a button. You can save various armor and weapon builds to slots on your inventory screen, then switch between them as needed. She’ll even change her trims and shaders to keep her fashion fresh. You can unlock up to ten slots, but you’ll need to progress through Destiny 2’s new Guardian Rank system to get them all.
Destiny 2 Design Lead Xavier Durand-Hollis confirms that switching to a loadout can remove items from your vault to equip, but won’t save things you haven’t equipped. “Teams will be able to remove items from your vault,” he explains during our preview, although he does point out that you’ll need to have space available in your inventory before doing so: ” Teams can’t decide to push items back into their vault for you, they can only push back.”
This is obviously a slight frustration, because if you’re using multiple different pieces of gear or weapons across builds, it’s all too easy to imagine your inventory slots filling up in the blink of an eye. When asked if that’s an issue, Durand-Hollis suggests it’s something the team will be watching with the potential that it could change in the future, but as things stand you’ll have to Manually save things if you want to keep your inventory ordered.
You might want to keep Destiny Item Manager installed for now, then. However, the ability to switch between your loadouts on the fly, which Bungie says is possible at any time except when you’re in a locked loadout activity, is certainly a very welcome addition. Jumping between GM Dusks and Crucible PvP on the go should be easier than ever.
