It was announced today that the free Xbox game MultiVersus is being shut down and delisted until it returns for a full release in 2024. The deadline for the MultiVersus open beta is June 25, 2023.
The news was revealed on the official MultiVersus website, where it was explained that the team has a “clearer view of what we need to focus on” and is therefore taking the game offline for the time being.
“We know there is still a lot of work to do. As a result, we have a clearer view of what we need to focus on, especially the content cadence for new characters, maps, and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the game.” with updated netcode and other matchmaking improvements. We’ll also be reworking the progression system based on your feedback and looking for new ways to connect with your friends in-game.
To do this properly, we will be closing the MultiVersus open beta on June 25, 2023. As part of this process, we will be pausing updates and taking the game offline while we prepare for the release of MultiVersus, which we target. early 2024.″.
The game will be temporarily removed from Xbox starting April 4, but if you’ve already downloaded it before that date, you’ll be able to download it after that date as well. All online features will be disabled after the server shutdown on June 25, but local matches and practice features will still be playable.
It’s fair to say that MultiVersus hasn’t proved as popular lately as it was at launch, so hopefully this extra development time will allow the team to regroup and figure out how to get back into strength in 2024.
