Minecraft Dungeons & Dragons is a new game mode that gives the game an RPG twist.
Announced today March 28 during a Minecraft Direct presentation, Minecraft Dungeons & Dragons is the latest initiative to take gaming to a new level. Unlike Minecraft Legends, however, Minecraft Dungeons and Dragons takes place within Minecraft and is not a standalone game.
Dungeons & Dragons features a full campaign in Minecraft, which developer Mojang says will take players around 10 hours. There are also elements of social interaction with NPCs, as well as progression and story mechanics with branching story paths.
“You have multiple choice dialogues and sometimes you roll the dice. So it’s a 20 and the result will decide what happens with that roll,” says Riccardo Lenzi, Senior Producer at Mojang. “I think his deep knowledge and love for the brand has really come through in this game. And I think it’s going to be really amazing when people see it,” adds Tom Sargent, lead producer for Wizards of the Coast.
In general, there are four main classes in Minecraft Dungeons & Dragons, although Mojang hasn’t revealed any further details about them at this time. What each class will have, however, is a basic attack, as well as specialized abilities, which will change between each class to add gameplay dimensions.
At this time, there is no scheduled release date or release window for Minecraft Dungeons & Dragons. However, when it does finally release, it will come to PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and mobile platforms.
