How to build an effective base

Below, we’ve listed our top tips for building the best possible foundation from the start in Meet Your Maker. We’ve also added some tips on where you should try to upgrade your base over time, as this will provide you with enough resources to expand it fairly quickly.

Start with a low base

You will be tempted to build a colossal base when you first play Meet Your Maker. However, this takes up valuable space on your land, which means you can’t place as many traps. Start with a low base, making the most of the blocks already available on the ground and simply putting a roof on top. This gives you plenty of land to place traps on without needing new blocks for a main path. You can build from there as you prestige your base, but if you start small you’ll progress much faster.

Build a secret entrance

You must leave a path for your clone to transport Genmat through your base. However, you can also create a secret entry. At first, it’s a great way to get in and out of your base easily when trying it out. As you earn more resources and lend to your base, you’ll be able to entice players with decorations, making them think this route is easier or more rewarding. Fill it with traps, hidden guards, and all manner of sneaky deadly tools, and you’ll soon be killing even the most experienced raiders.

Place traps in the corners.

As you’ll no doubt discover when raiding bases built by other players, corners are a great place for traps. They are far enough out of your field of vision when running that they can surprise you at least once. In the image above, you can see we’ve placed a trap in one corner, with another just inside the corner from there. This ensures that players don’t expect the second trap even if they see the first. It’s true that the clone flying above this trap helps distract players from the real danger, but you can prepare for it. Placing traps in the corners is enough to kill any players who think they are too fast for your base to catch.

Hide the guards out of sight

Once players enter your base, you want things to feel as claustrophobic as possible. Place blocks around the main path to enclose them, leading to an open area filled with traps at each corner. In the image above we have a trap behind the players on this path, one on the ground, and a guard to the side that will shoot and attack players long before they are ready to shoot the traps. This level of chaos prevents players from thinking clearly. Even though they know all they’re up against, the panic will cause them to make a mistake, and that’s when you get your kills.

Acid blocks require precise placement

Acid Blocks may look like a useless cheat. They rely on players running through or falling on them, and it’s hard to force that to happen. However, you can place them in the right places to make them as effective as possible. The image above shows how the acid block is placed right in front of a trap. It is because this cheat attracts players. They will destroy it and want to recover their ammo. When they do, they might fall through the acid block. Add guards on the opposite side and you have a guaranteed kill if a player doesn’t know what they’re doing.

Make the most of diagonal edges

You can reshape the blocks to be halved with a diagonal border. These are perfect for creating small corridors, but also for setting traps. In the picture above you can see a trap leading the way. Most players won’t look for traps like this until they’ve been looting for a few hours and dead from it. Even then, it’s a great way to sneak kill players who aren’t paying attention or are distracted by your guards.

Second Wave is a fantastic starter cheat mod

You can modify your guards and traps to make them even better at killing raiders. The Second Wave mod causes a trap to be hidden until a player has collected your Genmat. Place traps along the main path to your base with this mod attached to catch them as they run away. Players always think they’ve won once they pick up their Genmat, but that’s never the case when you have two or three Second Wave mods active and ready to attack.
