The Vivarium is a unique location in Hogwarts Legacy. It’s a section of the Room of Requirement that you can use to store all the beasts you’ve captured from the wild, giving you access to their useful resources to upgrade your gear as you progress through the game. You start with a small section, but eventually you will need more space. Here’s what you need to know about upgrading and expanding your vivarium at Hogwarts Legacy.
When can you upgrade and expand the Vivarium at Hogwarts Legacy?
It is important to note that you cannot upgrade a Vivarium. You cannot add more space to any room. However, you can expand it and unlock more rooms. Every room you open will have extra slots for your critters, giving them plenty of room to enjoy the great outdoors without worrying about poachers roaming Hogwarts.

The way to unlock the other Vivarium rooms comes down to completing side quests. Beyond the starting nursery, the forest, you can unlock three different locations: a coastal nursery, a meadow, and a swamp. You can only unlock them by completing various side quests scattered throughout the Hogwarts Legacy, and they won’t be immediately available for you to grab and complete. You may need to complete the main story missions for these tasks to become available.

The Coastal Vivarium is unlocked when you complete The House-Elf’s Spell, where you help Deek search for his friend. The Grassland Meadow Vivarium is unlocked when you complete the Phoenix Rising side quest. The final location, Swamp Vivarium, will become available when you complete the Foal of the Dead side quest.
Don’t worry too much about missing these Vivarium updates. Instead, we recommend focusing on the main Hogwarts Legacy story and finding them naturally as you play.
