The “Complete Merlin Trials” exploration challenge is the only way to get an inventory expansion in Hogwarts Legacy. As you reach milestones in the challenge, you get new slots to store gear. These extra slots are a must if you keep having to destroy gear to make room for more. You can start completing Trials of Merlin as soon as you complete the Trials of Merlin main quest. There are nearly 100 of them to discover and solve, and one of the trickiest can be found near the Floo Flame in the Forbidden Forest, a short distance to the west across the river. . Confusingly, the Floo Flame of the Forbidden Forest isn’t actually in the Forbidden Forest region, and neither is this trial of Merlin. It’s actually right on the border between the Hogwarts area to the north and the Hogwarts area to the south.

How to Complete Merlin’s Trial Near the Forbidden Forest Floo Flame
To complete Merlin’s Trial of the Forbidden Forest (which is actually in the northern region of Hogwarts), you need to destroy nine stone balls perched atop the stone pillars. Usually, in Merlin’s Trials of this type, the Stone Balls are split into three separate sets of three, but in Merlin’s Trial near the Forbidden Forest Floo Flame, all nine are grouped together. All nine pillars and balls are west of the Merlin Trial marker, and all you have to do to destroy them is hit them once each with a basic throwing attack.

The first three pillars and balls are immediately west of the Merlin Trial marker, one in the clearing near the cut block and two on the rocks at the edge of the clearing.

The second set of pillars and balls can be found further west at the bottom of the rocky cliff around the broken wooden cart.

The last three pillars and balls are higher on the rocky cliff.

If you’re having trouble finding all nine pillars and balls, use Revelio in the area west of the Merlin Trial marker, and it will highlight the balls blue. Once you’ve destroyed all nine, Merlin’s Trial will end and you’ll be one step closer to a larger inventory.
