According to Hogwarts Legacy lore, the legendary Arthurian wizard Merlin was once a member of Slytherin House at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and during that time established a wide selection of extracurricular activities for himself. and his fellow Slytherins. These activities appear in Hogwarts Legacy as Merlin Trials; puzzles and challenges scattered across the map that test your spellcasting and puzzle-solving skills. One of Merlin’s toughest trials is found in the small town of Irondale, located in the Feldcroft region, near the border with Hogwarts Valley and the South Seas swamp.

How to Complete Merlin’s Trial in Irondale

Irondale’s Judgment of Merlin is located in a pumpkin patch guarded by scarecrows on the mountainside, northwest of the village. Sprinkle some Marshmallow Leaves on Merlin’s Trial Marker, then start looking for three sets of pillars with large stone balls (or orbs) above them. Your task is to destroy all nine balls and luckily you can do that with your Basic Cast spell. You don’t need to learn any fancy incantations for this trial of Merlin.

A set of orb pillars can be found east of the Merlin Trial marker, along the southeast edge of an orchard.

Three more orb pillars can be found south of the Merlin Trial marker, along the path to town from Irondale Floo Flame.

If you’re having trouble finding the orb pillars, fire up Revelio and you should see the orbs highlighted in blue. Destroying all nine orbs completes the Trial of Merlin, and a green magic hologram of Merlin will appear under a gazebo on the Trial of Merlin track. The more Trials of Merlin you solve, the more equipment storage you will get in your inventory.
