Poliwrath is one of the few raids that can spawn in Pokémon Go. You’ll most likely encounter this raid as a three-star encounter, which means you should be able to go it alone, as long as you have a reasonable Pokémon team to use alongside you. . Poliwrath has a handful of weaknesses that you can exploit to your team’s advantage. This is what you need to know to beat Poliwrath in Pokémon Go.
All Poliwrath Weaknesses
Poliwrath is a Fighting and Water-type Pokémon. It will be weak against Electric, Fairy, Flying, Grass, and Psychic-type moves, but resistant against Bug, Dark, Fire, Ice, Rock, Steel, and Water-type attacks. We highly recommend using any Electric, Grass, or Psychic-type Pokemon against Poliwrath.
The best Pokemon to counter Poliwrath
The best Pokémon to use against Poliwrath during the raid are Exeggutor, Gallade, and Togekiss.
Exeggutor is a Grass and Psychic type Pokemon. Because it is a grass type, it will resist all water type attacks from Poliwrath, meaning it can be used as a powerful defensive option. Although Exeggutor doesn’t have the best defensive stat, he has excellent attack power. With access to Grass and Psychic-type moves, just about anything you use against Poliwrath will be super effective.
You can also use Gallade, a Fighting and Psychic type Pokémon. Gallade is one of many Pokemon trainers used during the Battle League and is also a great option for raids. It has a much higher defensive stat than Exeggutor, with almost identical attack power, making it a great first choice on your list against Poliwrath. It wouldn’t hurt to have multiple Gallades to counter Poliwrath.
The last Pokémon we will recommend against Poliwrath will be Togekiss, a Fairy and Flying type. Like Exeggutor, Togekiss has access to two types that Poliwrath is weak against, giving a wide variety of attacks to use in the raid. Togekiss is also a more common sight of the considerably powerful Pokemon, seen regularly in Ultra and Master League. If you have a few to spare against Poliwrath, we recommend aligning your roster with them.
For players who don’t have access to the three options shared above, there are several other options they can use. Here are some of the best alternate options you can use to counter Poliwrath in a raid.
- Alola Exeggutor
- Lugia
- Magnezone
- Pigeot mega
- mewtwo
- Rosarade
- tangrowth
- thunder
- tornado
- Venusaur
- Zekrom
You can use any Pokemon combination we listed above to defeat Poliwrath. You need six Pokémon to participate in the raid. Once you defeat Poliwrath, you and all trainers in the battle can catch him.
