You want to solve the Merlin’s Hogwarts Legacy Trials? If you’re worried about inventory space, you definitely haven’t solved enough Trials of Merlin. These mini-challenges appear after saving Nora Treadwell in Lower Hogsfield from some nefarious Ashwinders giving her a hard time. After all, they’re looking for you, so it makes sense to help.
It turns out that Nora is a historian and archaeologist specializing in the work of Merlin. She explored the highlands to find what she calls “The Trials of Merlin”. They’re essentially Hogwarts Legacy puzzles designed to test what students have learned in the classroom, giving more inventory space to complete those open-world game tasks. There are 95 Trials of Merlin to find, so grab your Hogwarts Legacy map and search them all.
Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials Solutions
There are nine distinct Hogwarts Legacy Merlin trials, here are the solutions you need for each puzzle:
big ball
Look for a large stone ball nearby, then use Accio or Depulso to guide it into a nearby stone bowl on the ground. This will usually be downhill from where the bullet is, and you may need to burn the vines by covering them with Incendio or Confringo.
small balls
Similar to the large Merlin Trial ball, there will be lots of smaller balls nearby. Use Accio to take them to platforms with footprints for bullets. If you’re having trouble finding any remaining bullets or targets, run Revelio to highlight their locations.
cracked stone
For broken stones, you just need to destroy them. Using your base cast multiple times should work, but you can also use Confringo if you want to make it a little faster.
Butterfly Lumos
Instead of the empty Hogwarts Legacy paintings with the large moths that you must guide to their home, it’s much smaller glow-in-the-dark moths that you must guide to the blue crystals locked away with Lumos.
sphere shot
Much like in the Trials of Cracked Stone Merlin, you just need to destroy these spheres however you see fit. We recommend clearing them with your base cast or Confringo.
Parkour
Climb to the top of the nearest block, then jump between them, no spells needed.
statue repair
Do you remember Fix? Possibly the most underused spell in Hogwarts Legacy, you need it here to repair nearby statues that crumble as soon as you activate Merlin’s Judgment.
symbols
Use Flipendo to rotate these stone cubes and make sure the symbol on top matches the one on the pillar.
lighting torches
Like the first Trial of Merlin, torches only require the use of Confringo or Fire to ignite. The twist is that you have to do it fast because they start to drip when you turn them on. If they are submerged in water or on the ground, the flames go out, which is why we recommend Confringo on Fire in 90% of cases.
These collectibles only spawn in the highlands, so you won’t have to wander the halls of Hogwarts or the town of Hogsmeade to locate them. Wait to properly tackle each of the Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials until you learn all the spells and have at least one broom.
They will appear on the map as you approach them, even while riding a broom. Once you activate them, nearby pillars will activate, and you’ll need to figure out which spell is best suited for the task. Some only require the use of your basic spell, while others require advanced magic that you learn in lessons or quests. It’s best to have all the spells in the game before tackling them so you can quickly run through everything Merlin has to offer. Once you have solved a challenge, the leaf marker will disappear from the map.

How to Get Mallowsweet to Activate Hogwarts Merlin Legacy Trials
You must use a sprig of marshmallow leaf for each Hogwarts Legacy Merlin test you find. Luckily, it’s a relatively easy plant to get, as long as you start growing it as soon as you can grow plants. You can grow Malvasweet yourself, either after your first Herbology lesson or by creating a small pot in your Hogwarts Legacy Room of Requirement. You can purchase the Hollyhock Seed from The Magic Neep location, and it will take you ten minutes to grow five Hollyhock Leaves after repotting the plant.
And that’s all you need to know about the Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials. If you still need an extra hand, you can always unlock some of the talents in Hogwarts Legacy to improve your spell power. This can be enough to complete the most complex enchantments to cast. There are plenty of other collectibles in the RPG, from Daedalian Keys, Demiguise Statues, Landing Pads, Infamous Enemies, and more. Harry Potter series creator JK Rowling has made a number of transphobic comments on social media in recent years. Warner Bros. has the license to create games based on Harry Potter. Although the details of this agreement are not known to the public and WB Games claims that “JK Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game”, it is likely that as creator and owner of the intellectual property of Harry Potter, she receives royalties on your sales.
