Waiting for the Hades 2 release date? After the massive success of Hades, fans are eager to see what Supergiant Games has in store for the sequel to this massive indie hit.

The mythological roguelike game was revealed at The Game Awards 2022. Despite critical acclaim for its previous titles, Hades 2 is Supergiant Games’ first sequel. We expect big things from the developers: the original Hades was so good that it made it to our list of the best PC games. So, with all the fluff out of the way, it’s time to take a look at everything we know about Hades 2 so far, including trailers, story, and gameplay.

Hades 2 Release Date Speculation

As of this writing, Hades 2 does not have a confirmed release date. Supergiant Games said a release date will be announced closer to the end of the game.

Based on the first game, we expect Hades 2 to release on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.

Hades 2: Early Access release date

speculation

Like the original, Hades 2 will be available as an Early Access title on PC to help keep the game’s balance in check. Supergiant Games said on their blog that Hades 2 will be available in Early Access sometime in 2023. Note that this doesn’t necessarily mean that Hades 2 will officially release in 2023.

Hades 2 Trailer

Hades 2’s first, and currently only, trailer premiered during The Game Awards 2022. It begins with an animated cutscene featuring the game’s protagonist, Melinoë. She fights Hecate, a Greek goddess often associated with sorcery, who seems to be a sort of mentor for Melinoë. After being defeated by Hecate, they share a few words before speaking the words “Death to Cronus”, referring to Cronus, the leader of the Titans in Greek mythology and father of Zeus, Hades and their brothers.

The second half of the trailer focuses on gameplay and shows off some of the new areas players have access to. It also introduces some of the gods that players will interact with, including Apollo, Nemesis, and Moros, the son of Nyx. The trailer ends with a frame of chained Hades issuing a warning about Cronos before Melinoë swears to save him.

Hades 2 story and gameplay

Hades 2 sees players take control of Melinoë, a daughter of Hades and brother of the original game’s protagonist, Zagreus. The Titan Cronus escaped from his prison in the Underworld to take revenge on the gods of Olympus who had imprisoned him there.

Supergiant described Cronus as the “Titan of Time”, suggesting that this Cronus is a combination of the Titan Cronus, the aforementioned father of Zeus and Hades, and Chronos, the Greek personification of time. The Greeks often believed that these two characters were one and the same. It’s confusing, we know. The game is once again set in the underworld, this time with brand new locations, dangerous enemies, and more.

While you don’t need to have played Hades to understand the story of Hades 2, Supergiant has confirmed that there will be plenty of references to the first title. The developers promised even more references to Greek mythology and culture that made the world so fascinating in the first place.

hades 2 release date fight

While we don’t know much about Hades 2 yet, based on the trailer, it seems safe to assume that the gameplay is very similar to the original. The roguelike elements and isometric view remain, and while the Boons system appears to be making a return, it looks like a whole new pantheon of gods will provide the upgrades this time around.

Also, it seems that Melinoë focuses more on magic during combat, unlike Zagreus. Supergiant describes her as “a witch and immortal sorceress with powerful magical abilities”, as well as possessing “deadly skills with a variety of shadowy weapons”. This magic can be seen in parts of the trailer, both in her fight with Hecate and in the game itself.
