The “Scanner” in Atomic Heart is an invaluable tool for level-mapping and finding loot, but on Xbox at least it’s a bit difficult to use right off the bat. The mechanics are introduced during the game’s introduction, but the way they are explained to the player does not match.
The good news is that once you know the right inputs, it becomes nice and easy to use. Here’s how to activate your scanner in Atomic Heart on Xbox.
How to Use the Scanner in Atomic Heart on Xbox
Although the right bumper (RB) is used for other mechanics in this game, like picking up loot with the gauntlet, it is also used for the scanning mechanic in the game. Basically, you need to double tap RB for a fast scanning flash, or lower it second RB Press to keep the scanner running.
Most of the time, you’ll want to keep scanning for a few seconds, so you better get used to this method. So, press RB then hold RB right after and voila, your scanner will be activated!

Atomic Heart Xbox Controller Remapping
Unfortunately, at launch I can’t remap your controls in the Xbox version of Atomic Heart, so you’ll have to stick with that scanning method for now. As mentioned in our review, the game has noticeable controller input issues at the moment, so hopefully a patch will help resolve some of these issues in the near future.
We hope this helps you with your Atomic Heart game on Xbox!
