You can play games like Starfield while you wait, but Bethesda design director Emil Pagliarulo has some suggestions: space is a big genre, so a lot influenced the team’s next Skyrim game.
“I’ve had people ask me what other movies besides Prospect have that Starfield vibe,” says Pagliarulo. I feel like I can’t really specifically answer this question without getting into the spoiler/reveal area, and that’s something I can’t and won’t do.
If you haven’t seen Prospect it’s a 2018 sci-fi movie starring TV’s best dad Pedro Pascal and after watching the trailer I can absolutely see how Bethesda has been inspired by aesthetics.
“We already said you could infiltrate the Crimson Fleet as space police and report to your superiors, so maybe you’ll see…Donnie Brasco?” Pagliarulo adds jokingly.
“But seriously, I don’t think there’s a sci-fi movie or TV show that hasn’t inspired Starfield’s many developers in one way or another, from Space: 1999 to Cowboy Bebop, Event Horizon and Silent Running. It’s space, after all, there’s room for everything.”
So there’s plenty for you to browse ahead of Starfield Game Pass’s release date, with Pagliarulo throwing out some absolute recommendations of classic space genres (Cowboy Bebop stans up) ahead of launch later this year. While Pagliarulo’s picks are easy, each is a classic for a reason, with the universe created in each so well realized that it’s no surprise to hear that Starfield drew inspiration from them in some way. of another.
