An Xbox console exclusive, The Gunk garnered a lot of attention around its late 2020 release, likely largely due to the inclusion of Xbox Game Pass in the title just when the Xbox Series X and S were all over. news. It turns out that Xbox’s involvement in bringing The Gunk to market was “instrumental” in getting the game made in the first place.
In a new thread on BloodAgostino Simonetta of publisher The Gunk Thunderful Games expressed how positive his team’s experience with Xbox was and how important the launch of Game Pass was as well.
Kidding aside, Xbox and Xbox Game Pass were instrumental in allowing the team to bring the game to market and allow so many gamers to play it. We working with Xbox on The Gunk.— (email protected) (@stiniuk) February 28, 2023
Despite speculation about the durability of Game Pass for Xbox and the industry in general, many development teams certainly appreciate the stability it brings to development. Earlier this month, independent publisher No More Robots explained how the service enables a “sure hit” for small teams.
Judging by Thunderful’s tweet above, those who worked on The Gunk benefited from similar levels of security during the development of the title, as well as a nice bonus for the Xbox Game Pass playerbase though. on !
