After a few weeks of competition, the winner of the IEM Katowice 2023 tournament has been announced. After a weekend of finals, the grand final took place last night and G2 Esports took on Heroic for the lion’s share of the prize pool. pool, but also for direct qualification to IEM Cologne 2023 later this year.
After a competition, the winner was decided after the fourth map, as G2 Esports managed to edge Heroic 3-1 on aggregate in the match. This result earned G2 Esports $400,000 in prize money, a spot in the upcoming IEM Cologne Major, and actually made G2 Esports eligible for the Intel Grand Slam title.
This means G2 Esports joins Team Vitality, FaZe Clan, Cloud9 and Outsiders, in a race to claim four wins at Masters and ESL Pro Tour events. The race will continue for the next nine events, which means that G2 Esports must win a third of the next tournaments to claim the million dollar prize offered for accomplishing the feat. The problem is also that the team will have to do this before Team Vitality, Cloud9, or Outsiders win three events, or before FaZe Clan wins just one of the next three events.
