Gameloft has shared details about a new regulated multiplayer mode planned for Disney Speed Storm.
Those who got access to the closed beta expressed interest in a skill-focused mode, not racers. Fortunately, this is where the regulated multiplayer mode comes in. The mode will be continuously developed in the future, but we have preliminary information.
These match types are similar to ranked multiplayer, but with key differences. A regulated multiplayer event will be active at all times during Early Access. Also, while you can play any of your previously unlocked racers, events will have “Guest Racers” available for you to try out for characters you may not have unlocked.
In Disney Speedstorm Regulated Multiplayer, all racers are set to the same upgrade tier, all racers are set to the same star level, and crews are not active (you can still customize skins and kart of your runner). Essentially, Gameloft seeks fairer rules of the game.
Regulated multiplayer removes ranks and leagues. Additionally, score points are placed with regulated multiplayer points earned by completing races, with your position determining how much you receive. Points can then be used to achieve milestones and earn rewards like multiplayer coins and cosmetics. Also note that closed multiplayer events are not tied to a season like ranked multiplayer, which means that when an event ends, your closed multiplayer points are reset to zero.
Matchmaking is based on the current regulated multiplayer point total. The system will always try to match you with players with a similar Gated Multiplayer point total.
Disney Speedstorm will launch on Switch on April 18, 2023.
