Destiny 2’s fashionable accolades could give the game’s mediocre FPS system a boost, players say. Bungie introduced its endorsement system with the release of Lightfall and Destiny 2 Season 20, but some players are complaining that the Destiny 2 endorsement, while well-meaning, isn’t a particularly great addition to Destiny 2.

In-game fashion has long been important to many Destiny 2 players. However, due to its nature, the game does not always allow Guardians to put personal styles front and center in their character builds in the environment. A recent Reddit post titled “A ‘best dressed’ eulogy at the end of each game would be awesome!” Redditor Fireheart318s_Reddit points out that some players even call the game “Drestiny” and suggests that praise would be a great way to compliment others’ dribbling.

There is currently no way to do this in-game beyond expressing approval in voice or text chat. Praise for player appearance could serve as a badge of honor for more fashionable Guardians, as many players like to develop builds around specific themes, colors, and other trending elements.

Several players who responded to the thread agreed, with many suggesting that they usually award praise based on the appearance of their teammates anyway.

Bungie introduced commendations with Lightfall to celebrate and recognize other players’ contributions to team activities, allowing Guardians to award themselves commendations based on good play, good communication, or knowledge of the game. However, it seems that many players don’t take them seriously or use them as intended. A major issue with commendations is that players didn’t feel like they had enough time to properly award commendations after certain activities. However, Bungie has taken some steps to begin fixing this issue in a recent patch.

Perhaps a challenge in implementing the recommendations is the delayed release of the game’s Research Group (LFG) features. Combined with the LFG’s capabilities, the commendations would have allowed players to use in-game social tools to cultivate teams with specific goals, and then more actively award themselves commendations based on those goals in a facilitated environment. Instead, players who use kudos will generally have to send them to random players they find in matchmaking activities, as even activities like raids seem to have limits on kudos. Content creators have even gone so far as to make videos explaining how to farm Commendations, as they are tied to Destiny 2 Guardian Ranks and players need a certain number to level up.

However, it seems like praise is better suited to relatively quick judgments in matchmaking activities like PvP, where players may not even know which of their teammates is performing better until they see the screen of end of activity. However, most players are quick to judge something as visual as the Guardian’s outfit, allowing them to compliment players based on how they’ve chosen to decorate their characters.

In-game fashion-based requests for praise from players have also made their way from Reddit to Twitter, so hopefully Bungie sees and takes notice.
