Destiny 2 Lightfall’s difficulty changes take players away from the FPS game. Longtime Keepers note that things like Vanguard Ops playlists, Nightfalls, Patrols, and Lost Sectors are much more challenging and remove the mindless grind that historically gave Destiny 2 its broad appeal.

Case in point: multiple threads posted less than a day apart on the r/DestinytheGame subreddit, each with over a thousand upvotes, all related to difficulty increases. A post titled “I used to enjoy legends challenges” by Redditor themattigan points to an Eternity Challenges race which they describe by saying, “I just got out of an absolute labor that lasted a painful 30 minutes to be crushed by goblins.” , Centurions and Acolytes, not to mention the most powerful enemies who seem to have had their HP increased by around 1000%. »

hat post has over 1.2k upvotes. A post titled “For the love that is holy…remove drummers (or nerf their damage) while on patrol” by user DevonT3 has 1.3k upvotes, while a post titled “Please, make sure the laser tripwires don’t shoot us all at once Redditor Pfhortune’s Vanguard playlist” also has 1.2k upvotes Another post with 2.3k upvotes from Redditor AKA-VANISH -X is titled “If you want to make the game harder, make it more rewarding”.

A post from Redditor Alastor369 titled “Bringing the challenge back to Destiny”, a reference to Destiny 2 game director Joe Blackburn’s statement on increasing difficulty levels in the game, notes: “They take the content we have deleted. and they get sick of doing it, and they make it harder (boring) without increasing the reward.” The post has over a thousand upvotes.

Taken together, Reddit’s complaints seem to imply that Bungie missed the mark by increasing the game’s difficulty. other daily activities in the game seemed too easy. Before Lightfall, if things got too tough, players could simply increase their power level, which made enemies easier to kill.

However, recent difficulty changes have also created power deltas for certain activities. Players cannot simply increase their power levels to play through content they would otherwise struggle to beat. Instead, the game encourages them to reach a recommended power level, which their power level does not exceed for the activity. The game also makes the enemy’s power level much harder than the player’s. As a result, power levels become meaningless in these activities once players reach a certain level.

With all of these complaints, it’s worth noting that the team increased the difficulty of some of these standard activities in response to player complaints that some content was too easy. For example, a Redditor ca-ca-cayde post from September 23, 2022 is titled “Strike Playlist Base Difficulty Needs To Be Raised”. This post has 2.2k upvotes.

While it’s hard to gauge what Bungie should do to appease players, the reality is that even veteran players find some of the game’s most basic content too difficult. several years ago, the content of the game gives the impression that it should be further accessible to new players instead of being so inaccessible that it turns them away.
