A new set of updates, released by Valve on the CSGO backend on Steam, hints at the possibility of an upcoming CSGO Source 2 beta. complete. While a full sequel might be wishful thinking, it increasingly looks like CSGO Source 2 could be just around the corner.
On March 14, a series of changes and updates were made to the “Development” and “Pre-Release” branches of the CSGO Steam backend. Essentially, Valve tweaked and made hidden additions to the game, presumably with the intention of revealing them later.
This in itself is not unusual: virtually all CSGO updates, from fixes to new cases, will exist in the development and pre-release branches before being released. What’s interesting is the series of ID numbers assigned to these most recent updates.
Each new update or content pack, also known as “repositories”, is assigned a unique ID number on the Steam backend. Most recent CSGO mods use ID numbers from the Counter-Strike Global Offensive beta platform.
Long story short, Valve has apparently made a number of CSGO updates that it plans to release as part of a limited public beta. Take a look at the image below and you can see that by highlighting the recent changes to SteamDB, they are heading to the CSGO beta platform.
Combined with recent news, for example an archive file for CSGO 2 discovered in an NVIDIA driver update, and it seems possible that a beta version of CSGO Source 2 is planned in the near future. Now might be a good time to review the CSGO leaderboard.
