Konami is filing a “Project Zircon” trademark which could well revive hopes of a return of Castlevania.
A return of Castlevania in sight? Konami, the Japanese video game company, recently registered a trademark called “Project Zircon” which may well be related to the famous franchise. While the name may seem innocuous, it could very well refer to a nugget found in various Castlevania games, especially in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. But Konami does not confirm anything for the moment.
A new track for a new Castlevania
Still, this news has revived hopes for an upcoming game. Indeed, the Castlevania series has been dormant for several years. The last main installment, Lords of Shadow 2, was released in 2014. . Despite persistent reports, no official announcement of a new title in the series has been made.
However, Konami recently it has softened its stance on licensing more of its gaming properties to outside studios. And rumors have been circulating for some time, indicating that a Castlevania reboot is underway internally in Japan, along with several Silent Hill games in development at numerous external studios.
In fact, in October 2022, the studio announced a series of third-party Silent Hill titles, including a remake of Silent Hill 2 by Bloober Team. Additionally, Konami’s production assistant, tsutomu taniguchi, also recognized fan excitement and enthusiasm for the Castlevania franchisesaying the buzz was” really motivating for Konami.
Therefore, it is possible that the Project Zircon brand will be tied to a future Castlevania title. On our side, we are impatiently awaiting an official confirmation from Konami. To be continued…
