Microsoft disputed claims that call of duty playstation Gamers are likely to switch to Xbox if Activision Blizzard is acquired and the franchise becomes exclusive.
Removing PlayStation versions of Call of Duty doesn’t make financial sense
Microsoft’s latest statement responds to concerns raised by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). The regulator offered to let Call of Duty out of the acquisition, a proposal which Microsoft rejected.
As reported by Axios, maker Xbox has complained that the CMA has overstated the value of Call of Duty, citing a YouGov survey that found only 3% of PlayStation gamers would consider switching to Xbox instead of Call of Duty. .
“As we’ve always said: it doesn’t make business sense to pull Call of Duty from PlayStation,” Microsoft told Axios. The company added that the percentage of gamers who might switch to Xbox is “too small to harm Sony’s ability to compete and too small for a retention strategy to be profitable for Xbox.”
In fact, CMA’s own survey found that 15% of dedicated Call of Duty gamers would switch platforms if the franchise became exclusive. However, the loss of revenue from gamers switching platforms is understandably unacceptable to Sony.
