It looks like Baldur’s Gate 3 might just be a timed console exclusive on PS5, as the Xbox version of the game is facing a few “issues”. This comes from developer Larian Studios, who explained why the game was announced for PS5 yesterday during PlayStation’s State of Play without saying anything else about an Xbox Series X and S release.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is intentionally not a timed PS5 console exclusive
In a statement on the official Baldur’s Gate 3 Reddit, Community Manager Molly Carroll reveals what’s happening with the Xbox version of the game:
We’ve been working on an Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 for some time, but we’ve had some technical issues, especially with split-screen co-op. We’re still working on an Xbox version of BG3, but we’re not sure enough to announce it yet.
The statement continues: “There is no platform exclusivity that would prevent us from releasing BG3 on Xbox on the day and date, should that be a technical possibility.”
It’s unclear what’s causing the problem on Xbox Series consoles, though it could be because split-screen co-op has to meet the low-end Xbox Series S hardware specs. In any case, it seems that the PS5 release date is in August. 31, 2023 is solid.
Baldur’s Gate 3 will not be released on PS4, making it a current-gen exclusive. A Collector’s Edition of the game is currently available for purchase for PS5 and PC. It was previously thought that BG3 would be PC exclusive.
