Yes folks, it’s a real title: Atomic Heart and High on Life are the same thing, according to Starfield lead designer Emil Pagliarulo. While both RPGs look very, very different on the outside, Pagliarulo’s claims are actually not This crazy – believe me.
In a March 21 tweet, Pagliarulo wrote, “Atomic Heart and High on Life are basically the same game. One Russian, one American. Consider my very raised eyebrows.
He admits that’s quite a statement, but his reasoning actually makes a lot of sense. “It’s a strange parallel, but ‘having a funny argument with a member of your team in a first-person game’ is pretty rare. Hard to pull off, you need great dialogue and chemistry . They’re nailing it.”
In High on Life, every weapon speaks to you, which we found quite off-putting in our High on Life. review. Likewise, Atomic Heart’s P-3 agent jokes and fights with his AI partner CHAR-les, the futuristic gauntlet that accompanies him on his journey through robotic armageddon.
We’ve also seen Square Enix’s Forspoken attempt a similar feat with Frey and Cuff, and while I’ll die on the hill ‘Forspoken wasn’t so bad’, I must admit that Frey’s constant nagging and name-calling has been a hit. all the more made interactions with his golden accomplice irritating. nothing else. .
In Mundfish and Squanch games, there’s back and forth, fun banter, and interactive storytelling. CHAR-les is the voice of reason in a world dominated by propaganda, which constantly questions P-3’s unwavering devotion to the Soviet regime. It’s the perfect plot device and explains the story, while Frey’s Cuff feels like it’s just there to be suckered into for no real reason.
All this to say that while Pagliarulo comments initially it may have brought a smile, when you think about it, it actually makes a lot of sense.
Does this mean we’ll see talking weapons from Starfield? We’ll have to wait and see if Bethesda will follow up on Atomic Heart and High on Life when the Starfield release date rolls around. Until then though, we have a list of the best space games to help you out.
