The state of Washington is the place in the United States where the highest minimum wage per hour will be granted to its employees. We tell you more about Just Money

As of January 1, 2023, in more than twenty states the minimum wage was increased for those who work in their geographical limits. This comes as Americans have had a difficult year in terms of inflation. In this sense, a state is the one that now leads the hourly pay that is granted to workers: it is Washington.

According to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) of the United States, more than 8 million workers got a raise on January 1, 2023, with 23 states and the District of Columbia implementing hourly minimum wage increases ranging from 23 cents and $1.50 dollars.

In this sense, Washington employees will earn, from now on, the highest minimum wage in 2023, with the amount of $15.74 dollars an hour. In contrast, the lowest minimum wage will be paid to Montana workers, at $9.95 an hour.

“There are quite a few states across the country that are going to see pretty big jumps in the minimum wage because of the higher rate of inflation last year,” Deirdre Kennedy, a senior payroll analyst at Wolters Kluwer, told CNBC.

There has been a lot of pressure to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. Even President Joe Biden has endorsed him. Currently, the federal minimum wage in the United States is $7.25 per hour. So far, it has not been possible to bring the issue of the federal minimum wage to Congress, but what has been achieved is that the pay that federal workers and contractors receive is $15 dollars an hour.
