Who is eligible
According to the California State Franchise Tax Board, to be eligible, you must live in California on the date the payment is issued, plus the following requirements must be met:
–File a 2020 income tax return by October 15, 2021 or by February 15, 2022 if a tax extension has been requested.
–Meet California’s adjusted gross income limits, which are less than $250,000 per year for single filers and $500,000 for married filers filing jointly. This income had to be from the 2020 tax year.
–If you were not claimed as a dependent during tax year 2020
–If you were a resident of the state of California for six months or more of tax year 2020
How payments are made
If you filed your 2020 taxes electronically and received your tax refund via direct deposit, you will receive your California stimulus check via direct deposit. Otherwise, you will receive a debit card in the mail.
As of December 30, 2022, more than 30.6 million California taxpayers and their dependents have benefited from the Middle Class Tax Rebate.
