DirecTV is paying $460 per customer in the U.S.: what you need to do before Aug. 7

This is part of a multi-million dollar settlement reached after being charged with violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
DirecTV Settlement: $16.85 Million for Do Not Call Registry Violation
The settlement is for $16.85 million dollars after a complaint was filed against it for calling thousands of Americans who were registered on the “National Do Not Call Registry” list. The legal documents state that despite these indications, DirecTV called them to offer them some of its services.
Although the U.S. company has denied its participation in this scheme, it determined that it would reach an agreement to stop the legal process. Being that the total compensation will be $16.85 million dollars, according to estimates, the average estimated payment for each person would be around $460 dollars.
This figure is determined by taking into account that about 113,997 Americans are on the “National Do Not Call Registry” who would have received a call from DirecTV.
Receiving Warning Letters: Eligibility for Over $400 from DirecTV Settlement
People who are eligible to receive more than $400 from DirecTV are receiving some warning letters.
“You are receiving this postcard because records show that your name is associated with a phone number that received allegedly illegal calls. You do not have to remember receiving the calls,” is one of the texts that is reaching eligible people.
The call must have been received between 2017 and 2018 in the United States.
“You can complete a short Claim Form which we estimate at a minimum of $324 cash and an estimated average of over $464. These payments will come from a $16.85 million Settlement Fund. This fund will also be used to pay the costs of notifying people about the Settlement, attorneys’ fees, and awards to people who helped file the lawsuit,” reads one of the lawsuit documents.
