Fans of the original Spider-Man movies have some exciting news. Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin wants to bring back Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker in a new film called Spider-Man 4. Tomlin is the guy behind scripts for The Batman Part 2 and a Terminator anime. He shared his big idea on X, saying he is reaching out to director Sam Raimi right away to make it happen.

This would pick up the story from the old trilogy that came out in the 2000s. Back then, Tobey played a young Peter Parker swinging through New York. Now, Tomlin dreams of showing Peter as an grown-up dad and husband. He would juggle fights with bad guys and real-life stuff like family time. “It’s about the human side,” Tomlin told Vida Extra. He wants to skip the usual action overload and focus on Peter’s tough choices at home.

For the bad guy, Tomlin picks Dr. Curt Connors, who turns into The Lizard. This villain has not had much screen time as a dad figure before. In the 2012 Amazing Spider-Man, he was just a monster. But here, his family woes would mirror Peter’s own struggles. Tomlin sees it as a chance to mix scary fights with deep feelings about being a parent. Sam Raimi loves villains that show Peter’s inner fights, like in the first movies.

The plan sounds cool, but it is not easy. Sony Pictures owns the movie rights to Spider-Man. They are busy with the new Tom Holland version right now. Marvel Studios has huge films coming up, like Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. Adding another Spider-Man flick would be tricky, especially with talks of a fresh start for the series.

This is not the first try at Spider-Man 4. After Spider-Man 3 in 2007, which got mixed reviews, there were plans for more. But fans did not love the third one, so it fell apart. Tobey came back in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, teaming up with other Peters. That movie made over a billion dollars and got people excited for his return.

Mattson Tomlin is pushing hard. He posted on X about getting in touch with Raimi soon. If it works, it could be a fun way to see Tobey at age 50 as a wiser web-slinger. For now, it is just a pitch, but it has fans buzzing. What do you think—ready for dad Spider-Man?
