Singer Justin Bieber and Megan Thee Stallion lead the nominations for the MTV Music Video Awards (VMA) to be held next September in New York, both with possibilities to rise as artist of the year and obtain the award for best video clip.

The MTV VMAs, which will regain the public’s heat with a face-to-face ‘show’ in the Big Apple on September 12, presented their nominees in 14 ‘gender neutral’ categories on Wednesday.

Bieber, with seven nominations in total, is the main favorite of this edition thanks to several collaborations among which ‘POPSTAR’ stands out, along with DJ Khaled and Drake, while Thee Stallion, with six nominations, plays almost all his ballots to the provocative song ‘WAP’, with Cardi B.

Next up, with five nominations, are Billie Eilish, BTS, Doja Cat, Drake, Giveon, Lil Nas X and newcomer Olivia Rodrigo, followed by 24kGoldn, Cardi B, Dua Lipa and Taylor Swift, with four.

In the category of video of the year, the most outstanding, in addition to Bieber and Megan Thee Stallion rival Doja Cat and SZA for ‘Kiss Me More’, Ed Sheeran for ‘Bad Habits’, Lil Nas X for’ MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) ‘and The Weeknd for’ Save Your Tears’.

For their part, Justin Bieber, Megan Thee Stallion, Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift compete to be named artist of the year.

Among Latinos, Bad Bunny opts for two awards for his collaboration with Jhay Cortez in ‘Dákiti’ and, secondly, with J Balvin, Dua Lipa and Tainy for ‘UN DÍA (ONE DAY)’.

The ‘Best Latin’ section is completed by Rosalía and Billie Eilish for ‘Lo vas a Olvidar’, Shakira and the Black Eyed Peas for ‘GIRL LIKE ME’, Karol G for ‘Bichota’ and Maluma for ‘Hawaii’.

As for the news, the VMAs no longer host the special categories of ‘Best music video from home’ and ‘Quarantine performance’ that were opened due to the covid-19 pandemic, while the one of ‘Video for good’ remains ‘which started in 2019.

As of today, fans can vote for their favorites, in the absence of two other social categories being announced, that of ‘Best Group’ and ‘Song of the Summer’.

The gala, which will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and is one of the first mass events since the city reopened, will be broadcast on MTV channels and platforms around the world, as well as on a dozen other channels to reach to about 400 million homes.
