Justin Bieber and Meghan Thee Stallion lead the categories, followed by Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo. Find out when and where to see the awards!
Like every year, MTV revealed the nominations for the 2021 Video Music Awards , the awards ceremony that highlights the music videos of the season through fan vote . Starting today, audiences will be able to choose their favorites from 14 “genderless” categories including Video of the Year , Artist of the Year, and Best Collaboration .
The list of applicants is led by high-impact artists. Justin Bieber is in the top spot with seven nominations, followed by Megan Thee Stallion with six. Behind them and with five nominations each, another six interpreters will seek to take at least one statuette. It is about, nothing more and nothing less, than Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Drake, Giveon, Lil Nas X and Olivia Rodrigo .
The candidates for best video of the year are Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion for Wap ; Dj Khaled, Drake and Justin Bieber for Popstar ; Doja Cat and SZA for Kiss Me More ; Ed Sheeran for Bad Habits ; Lil Nas X by Montero (Call Me By Your Name) and, unsurprisingly, The Weeknd by Save Your Tears . Singers nominated for Artist of the Year are Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, Justin Bieber, Megan Thee Stallion, Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift.
With a show from the city of New York , the VMAs will be one of the first ceremonies public face since the beginning of the pandemic . “The health and safety of artists, fans, staff and partners continue to be MTV’s number one priority,” they said from the company. And they remarked: “We are working closely with state and local officials to implement best practices to safely bring together music fans from around the world.”
