New York, Oct 17 – The American singer Tina Turner, 82, now has a Barbie doll inspired by her and her more rock style.
Barbie Tina Turner, whose price is 55 dollars, was released on the market near the fortieth anniversary of the song “What’s Love Got to Do with It”, published in 1984 and which became the artist’s biggest hit.
The legendary rock singer wears a black leather mini dress and a denim jacket, inspired by the clothes that Tina Turner wore in the video for the song.
“She went from singing as a child in her country church choir in Nutbush, Tennessee, to becoming the legendary performer hailed as the undisputed ‘Queen of Rock ‘n Roll,'” Mattel said in a statement.
Barbie, historically linked to the propagation of a feminine image of “vase woman”, has spent years trying to break that stereotype by launching more diverse and inclusive dolls.
Within this framework, Barbie created a line of dolls inspired by influential women whose goal, according to Mattel, is to “shed light on empowered role models to follow in an effort to inspire more girls. (…) Stories of remarkable women for show (girls) that they can be anything.
From the Cuban salsa singer Celia Cruz and the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo to the American mathematician from NASA Katherine Johnson, going through dozens of women from all over the world who have stood out in all fields, such as the American actress Zendaya, and the French chef Hélène Darroze.
And now, the queen of American rock music is joining this club of influential women, which Mattel is adding to every year.
