Tom Holland temporarily retires from acting and this is why

The British actor lived a grueling experience having to fully immerse himself in such a disturbing role in the series ‘The Crowded Room’.

Tom Holland’s last job was so tough and mentally demanding that the actor had no choice but to take a professional break to disconnect from his character, a young man with mental problems and unstable behavior, and focus on his well-being.

The 27-year-old actor made his decision known this week, coinciding precisely with the premiere of the series he produces and stars in, The Crowded Room, on the Apple TV+ platform, which premieres on June 9.

Tom Holland retires from acting and explains the reasons.

“It was a difficult time, for sure,” Holland told Extra Tuesday. “We were exploring certain emotions that I’d definitely never experienced before. And on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day issues that come up with any film set, it just added that extra level of pressure.”

Despite enjoying his role on set, the actor admitted that the series “broke him” in the process. “I’m taking a sabbatical now, and that’s a result of how difficult this show was,” he added.

Holland plays Danny Sullivan in the crime thriller about an unsuspecting young man who is arrested for a shooting at Rockefeller Center in the summer of 1979. The project also stars Amanda Seyfried, Emmy Rossum, Will Chase and Sasha Lane.

As for how she’s enjoying her gap year, the British star revealed that she’s been doing a bit of traveling, playing golf and visiting family and friends.

“You know, I’ve been going plant shopping and doing my best to keep them alive,” she added. “I’ve just been trying to be a normal Kingston guy and just relax.”

This new style for Holland comes about a month after the actor shared how his work on The Crowded Room led him to stay sober. “I’m no stranger to the physical aspects of the job doing the whole action movie thing,” he told Entertainment Weekly in May.

“But the mental aspect, it really hit me and it took me a long time to recover, to get back to reality.”

The Uncharted star has been candid in the past about prioritizing his mental health, including announcing his break from social media last August.

“I think Instagram and Twitter are overstimulating, overwhelming,” the actor told fans in a video he posted on his Instagram profile.

“I get caught up and went into a spiral when I read things about myself online and ultimately it’s very detrimental to my mental state. So, I decided to take a step back and delete the app.”
