Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner broke their silence after announcing their divorce

The couple was married for four years. They had two daughters

After four years of relationship and two daughters, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner processed this Tuesday their divorce in a court in Miami-Dade County, Florida.

After the confirmation of the separation, the couple has spoken out on social networks, confirming their divorce and asking for discretion to the media and network users during the delicate process. In the statement shared on the official Instagram of both celebrities, it is also mentioned that the decision to separate was joint and amicably.

“After four wonderful years of marriage we have decided by mutual agreement to end our marriage amicably. There is a lot of speculation about the reasons, but in reality it is a joint decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for ourselves and our children,” reads the statement.

In this context, the couple is reportedly already reviewing the details of their prenuptial agreement to end the marriage in the least scandalous way possible. According to Page Six, the agreement that Joe and Sophie signed establishes that the musician will keep all the royalties generated by his work with The Jonas Brothers and DNCE, while Sophie will do the same with the fortune he amassed after his time in Game of Thrones, Staircase and the X-Men saga.

As for the properties they acquired together, these will have to be divided equally or, failing that, sold so that the proceeds are shared equally. However, the problem comes with child support, because although many prenuptial agreements cover the custody of the children, the circumstances in which the parents separate end up generating several conflicts that the agreement did not contemplate.

For now, Joe and Sophie are expected to share custody of their two daughters: Willa, whom they had in 2020, and a 14-month-old daughter whose name has not been disclosed. In Joe Jonas’ court filing obtained by E! News, the musician shared that he has had full custody of the girls during his tour with The Jonas Brothers, and now, he would be seeking for custody to be split fairly.

“A parenting plan should be established, which addresses all parenting issues and contains a time-sharing schedule that provides frequent and continuous contact with both parties. It is in the best interest of the minor children that the parties have shared parental responsibility,” reads the documents.

The truth is that the news of Joe and Sophie’s separation has taken fans of both parties by surprise, as several publications from Sophie indicated that their love continued as well as the first day. Just last August, the actress shared a series of photos during a show of The Jonas Brothers; among these was a photo where Sophie kissed Joe’s hand, which caused several users to consider the rumors of their separation as unfounded.

However, there were other more convincing signs about the divorce. Around the same time, The Wall Street Journal shared that the couple had sold their Miami mansion valued at USD 15 million. The six-bedroom property had become the couple’s main home, and that they decided to get rid of it indicated that things were not going well in the marriage.
