Jaden Smith, the son of the famous marriage, initially supported his father in a tweet in which he points out: “This is how things are done.”
However, there are also those who condemned the attack in very strong terms. Director Judd Apatow, for example, assured that it was an unfortunate display of “rage and violence out of control” and stressed that Will could have “killed” Chris with relative ease.
“They’ve heard a million jokes about them in the last three decades,” he added, referring to Will and Jada. “They are not new to the world of Hollywood and comedy. He has lost his mind.”
The comic Kathy Griffin nor was at all impressed with the interpreter’s decision to “defend” his wife’s honor because, in her opinion, it set a very dangerous precedent. “Now we all have to worry about who wants to be the next Will Smith in comedy clubs and theaters,” she opined.
For her part, actress Mia Farrow defended Chris Rock’s comment. “It was just a joke. Pranks are what Chris Rock does. He has always been daring. This was a soft joke for him. And I love GI Jane,” she assured.
