Singer Britney Spears has revealed, in part of the book ‘The Woman in Me’, that she became pregnant by singer Justin Timberlake at the end of 2000, but ended up having an abortion. In a long statement in the book, scheduled for release on October 24th, the artist recounts the pain of the decision and how she still wonders if she should have kept the pregnancy.
The information was confirmed by the tabloid TMZ on Tuesday (17), pointing out that the singer makes it clear in the book how much she wanted to have the singer’s child and form a family with him. She also made a point of saying that the singer wasn’t happy about the news at the time.
“The pregnancy was a surprise, but it wasn’t a tragedy for me. I loved Justin so much. I had hoped that one day we would have a family, but it would only happen much sooner than I had anticipated. But Justin definitely wasn’t happy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were too young,” she recounts throughout the publication.
The excerpt from the book was published by People magazine, reinforcing the fact that the decision was initiated by Justin. According to TMZ, Britney would not have considered abortion because of her religion and the conservative upbringing she experienced in her own family.
With the conflicts related to the decision, Britney allegedly agreed with Justin’s idea and went ahead with the abortion. However, during the book, the artist wrote how she still deals with it today.
“I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby. I don’t know if it was the right decision. If I had to decide on my own, I would never have done it. And Justin was very sure that he didn’t want to be a father,” said Britney, also adding that this “is one of the most agonizing things” she has ever felt in her life.
Long relationship
Justin and Britney were in a relationship between 1999 and 2002, while the break-up has shaken the contact the two had maintained since childhood. According to TMZ, the decision to have an abortion would have deeply affected Britney’s psychological state and, consequently, her entire relationship with Justin.
Before telling us about the abortion, Britney also explained how their love for each other came about at the time. The singer explains that she met her ex-boyfriend when she was a member of Disney’s “Mickey Mouse Club”, and their friendship flowed in a child’s environment.

“Christina Aguilera and I were the youngest children and we shared a dressing room. We looked up to the older kids: Keri Russell, Ryan Gosling and Tony Lucca, who I thought was so handsome. And I quickly connected with a boy called Justin Timberlake”, says the artist in the book.
Thus, the first kiss between the two took place during one of the children’s games. “At a sleepover, we played ‘Truth or Dare’, and someone dared Justin to kiss me. A Janet Jackson song was playing in the background while he leaned in and kissed me,” she said of the moment.
