Some dancers, as well as the public, wore masks, but the covid-19 seemed a thing of the past with an almost entirely face-to-face show.

The Puerto Rican Bad Bunny and the Colombian Karol G triumphed at the Latin American Music Awards, delivered this Thursday with a live show near Miami, full of music stars and where the pandemic seemed partially defeated.

Bad Bunny triumphed with five awards, including Artist of the Year, Favorite Urban Artist and Album of the Year for “YHLQMDLG”.

Some dancers, as well as the audience, wore masks, but after more than a year of pandemic, with coronavirus tests and more than 22% of the Florida population already vaccinated, the covid-19 seemed a thing of the past with a show almost completely face-to-face.

After the suspension of last year’s edition, the show presented by Mexican actress Jacqueline Bracamontes began with the delivery of the Favorite Single of the Year award to Karol G and Nicki Minaj, for “Tusa”.

“To all the girls who come along the way: mommy, bichota, and with everything, that it can be done and tomorrow you who see there at home will be here,” said Karol G, who came to the party as favorite with nine nominations and three awards.

At the middle of the gala, the Colombian reggaeton singer performed her premiere “El Makinón” with the American Mariah Angeliq.

Colombian Camilo won Favorite Pop Album for “Por primera vez”, while Rauw Alejandro won New Artist of the Year.

The Colombian Maluma sang a bilingual duet with the Jamaican Ziggy Marley, in a presentation with great special effects, such as jets of fire that occasionally covered the stage.

Carrie Underwood, Juanes and Pitbull, among others, also performed .

Veteran Venezuelan balladeer José Luis “El Puma” Rodríguez sang a lengthy medley of his greatest hits, which included “Dueño de nada” and “Agarrense de las manos,” before receiving the Legend of the Latin AMAs award.

“Thanks to you, you are the ones who made me get here,” said Rodríguez when accepting the award.

Dressed in furious red, the Mexican Ana Bárbara paid tribute to Joan Sebastian by interpreting “I’m going to change your name.”

The Puerto Rican Ozuna received the Extraordinary Evolution award from his grandmother in an emotional moment that ended in a hug and marked the end of the gala.

Brazilian Anitta won Favorite Female Artist while Bad Bunny took the male version of the award.

Bachata idol Prince Royce, nominated for best artist, sang several of his hits and won awards for Tropical Album and Tropical Song for “Carita de Inocente.”

“I want to dedicate this award to the doctors and nurses who are working for us day and night,” said the artist upon receiving the award for the song.

Other winners were Shakira, Eslabón Armado and Selena Gómez.

The sixth edition of the Latin AMAs, which began to be delivered in 2015 -with a hiatus in 2020-, were presented by the Hispanic channel in the United States Telemundo and took place at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, north of Miami.
