Ex-ÖVP finance minister goes to investment companies and is said to commute between Tokyo, Hong Kong and Vaduz.

Gernot Blümel is appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Superfund group of investment companies.

Blümel on the job change: “Superfund is a well-known brand in the global financial world that was founded in Austria. That’s why I’m particularly looking forward to working with committed people around the world in the future to continue this success story.”

According to company founder Christian Baha , Superfund is getting “a CEO with Blümel who has excellent connections in the international financial world. With fresh energy, he will prove himself to be a dynamic and prudent strategist.”

A secured chat log from Baha to ex-ÖBAG boss Thomas Schmid also suggests that there was a close relationship between Christian Baha and the Turkish ÖVP.

“You will soon be the highest captain at ÖBIB. How about going to LA or Palo Alto in January?” Baha wrote to Schmid at the end of October 2018. However, he did not officially become boss until March 2019. “Sounds like a brilliant dream,” says Schmids Reply.

The Superfund group of investment companies was founded by Christian Baha in Vienna in 1995 and, according to its own statements, is “one of the world’s most renowned fund providers that rely on fully automated, self-developed computer trading systems”. In recent years, Superfund has successfully invested in the further development of its systems and, as the press release goes on to say, “won important awards in the USA with individual funds”.

In the 2020 financial year, Superfund Asset Management GmbH made a profit of EUR 508,000 with 39 employees. Superfund has been quiet for the past few years. The number of employees fell significantly, branches in Europe were closed. The numerous funds were only partially able to achieve the good performance of the stock markets in the previous year .
