Actor Alfonso Zayas, known for comedies such as “Los Verduleros” (1986) and “El Día de los Albañiles: Los Maistros del Amor” (1991), died at age 80, it was confirmed in his social media accounts through a statement.

“Through the present and full of deep pain, we communicate and confirm the painful departure of our beloved Alfonso Zayas Inclán, on the night of Thursday, July 8, in Mexico City,” the letter reads.

“To say goodbye to him, we have decided to watch over him during a ceremony privately, only with his family and friends, so we ask for his understanding and respect in the most attentive way.”

According to various media, the artist suffered from bladder stones, and some say that he died of an alleged respiratory arrest, although the true cause of death has not been confirmed.

Zayas worked in more than 175 film and television productions, beginning his artistic career as an actor with the film Legs of Gold in 1958, according to IMDB.

Among his most popular works are the tapes “El Sexo Me Divierte” (1988), “Chile Piquín” (1994), “El Gato Volador” (1990) and “La Presidenta Municipal” (1975).

The National Association of Interpreters of Mexico lamented the death of the celebrity through its social networks.
