Spotify tests Audiobooks of 9 Classical Literature Overseas

Spotify has launched audiobook distribution of classical literature in the public domain overseas to explore the possibilities of audiobooks on the platform.

All of them are in the public domain, but celebrities are appointed for reading, and the content is exclusively for Spotify. Each work also comes with a commentary by Professor Glenda Carpio of Harvard University.

Both free and premium users are available, but currently only available in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Germany. It is planned to be provided in various countries around the world in the future.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, who reported this, Spotify was hiring for audiobooks in the summer of 2020, and it seems likely that the number of target works will increase in the future. It seems unlikely that it will be released in Japanese, but I’d like to expect future support.
