In May 2021, the first main hearing between Apple and Epic Games will take place in court in the USA. But now the developer studio has taken further legal steps. In the UK, Apple and Google have now been sued for taking advantage of their market leadership in Europe. In December the documents were submitted to the Competition Appeal Tribunal. Epic Games continues to fight for Fortnite to return to the two app stores. In addition, the team demands that direct payment options to the developer in the game are possible in the future.
In a statement to “GamesIndustry.biz” Epic Games announced that the case will be discussed on January 21, 2021 at the Competition Appeal Tribunal. Those responsible also made it clear that they are not demanding any damages from Apple or Google, but only access to fair competition from which all customers can benefit. But Apple has already reacted in a statement and again pointed out the deliberate violation of the guidelines that Epic Games did with the introduction of the payment option.
In August last year, the controversial update for Fortnite was released. The makers of Epic Games wanted to bypass the 30 percent levy that Apple and Google collect on every transaction.
