Australian Nick Kyrgios could not recover in time from his physical problems that forced him to withdraw from the Melbourne Summer Set and decided not to compete in the Sydney International hours before facing Italian Fabio Fognini (8) in the first round.

Kyrgios, who arrives with the lowest expectations in recent years for the first big of the season at Melbourne Park, indicated in the days leading up to the Sydney tournament who had suffered a discomfort similar to the symptoms of Covid-19 despite receiving several negative results.

But nevertheless, Australian media confirmed this Monday that Kyrgios had tested positive for coronavirus and that was the reason that led to his withdrawal from the tournament.

The Canberra-born tennis player is currently ranked 113th in the ATP rankings. And he could face any seed in the first round of the Australian Open, if he tests negative before the start of the tournament.
